Juneteenth - June 14 & 15

On June 14th and 15th, 2014, GBUAHN participated in a national celebration called the Juneteenth Festival. Juneteenth commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 19th, 1895, the final execution of the Emancipation Proclamation took place in Galveston, Texas. Juneteenth is a celebration of African-American heritage, history, and culture. Buffalo’s Juneteenth Festival is the third largest celebration of its’ kind. The festival includes a parade down Genesee St. and is followed by a festival of vendors and music in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park. GBUAHN participates in the annual Juneteenth Festival with a tent offering free health screenings, giveaways, and educating the community about free Health Home services.

Grease Pole Festival

GBUAHN sponsored and participated in the 46th annual Grease Pole Festival in Buffalo. GBUAHN was joined by BFNC and Erie County Department of Health providing free health screenings, free giveaways, and information about the Health Home Program. GBUAHN always looks forward to participating in these great community events!

Day of Wellness 2014

On Wednesday, July 30th GBUAHN hosted a free event at our Community Health Worker office located at 555 Niagara St. At the event, GBUAHN offered free lunch for folks who stopped by and completed free health screenings! We also offered kids’ games, insurance enrollment for the uninsured, and giveaways!

Hispanic Day Parade

GBUAHN participated in the 12th annual Puerto Rican and Hispanic Day Parade in Buffalo, NY. This year, GBUAHN participated with a float in the parade. All of our staff had a blast tossing out candy and t-shirts to parade attendees on Niagara Street. Afterwards, GBUAHN offered free services at our tent in LaSalle Park! GBUAHN and Rite Aid representatives offered free health screenings including diabetes, blood pressure, asthma, and depression. After completing the health screenings, each participant received a ticket for free food at the festival and was entered to win a bike or flat-screen TV! This event is one of GBUAHN’s favorites to participate in, and we hope to see you next year!
